In 2018, after a long odyssey of illness, I was diagnosed with CML by chance. I was very unwell at the time and had to stay in hospital for a while. However, with the help of TKI medication, I was able to return to life. Since then, I have invested a lot of time and energy in voluntary work in the social and political spheres, also to keep medical care at a high level. Unfortunately, I did not take the TKIs without consequences, several changes followed. I had to stop the last TKI because of dangerous side effects. After 5 years I am now in a discontinuation trial, but my bcr-abl levels are currently rising again and it is feared that I will soon have to end the therapy-free period again.

I would be happy if we had a chance of a real cure, and if this disease was more visible so that more research could be done on it. I wish all fellow sufferers many years of high quality of life and health, especially in countries where medication is difficult to obtain.
