My name is MARÍA ESTHER PALMA SEBASTIÁN, I have been a survivor of CML for 19 years, I am the mother of 2 daughters who when I was diagnosed with CML, one was 9 years old and the other 11, I am married at the beginning it was very difficult when they told me I had blood cancer the first thing that came to my mind was death, I felt very sorry for my daughters who were very young in the hospital where I was diagnosed with CML, it is the PNP hospital, LIMA PERU.

I am a teacher and I was one step away from being appointed as a teacher when I was diagnosed. Every day that passed was one day less for me until I was invited by my treating doctor to participate in a meeting of CML survivors.

In Bogota Colombia where the testimony of the survivors had a great impact on my life, after leaving this meeting I left with the desire to fight for my life and the lives of other CML patients. Following the example of the survivors who gave their testimony together with CML patients, we founded the association LUZ DE ESPERANZA (LIGHT OF HOPE) in the hospital where I was treated. All this was a consequence of the lack of medicine for CML patients, and we fought for the purchase of medicine for 20 patients at that time.

Thank God 19 years have passed and I am still supporting and fighting for access to care and medicine for CML patients.
