Living with CML
At 45 years of age, just casually thought of having a cbc blood test done.
My wbc was more than 25000 and had special remark, dwarf wbc or something.
An MD doctor overlooked the remark and said high wbc was because of some stomach infection.
Then began my turmoil various doctor visits.
An Ayurvedic doctor said it was blood cancer.
I had sleepless nights, my mind full of questions and doubts.
I thought my days are numbered.
In mid career such an diagnosis is terrible. No financial back up, wife was a home maker, a young daughter.
Life came to a stand still.
My close family members wrote my obituary and turned their back. It was a darkest phase of my life.
No family support, no finance and the stigma of such a diagnosis was killing me within.
Then I started Imatinib 400, with that came gastric issues, lost appetite.
Food intake was limited.
But luckily, I had a job and a good boss.
My boss supported me by all means.
My skin started becoming fair.
Bone marrow pain, regular blood test and doctor visit was order of the day.
My job helped me pay for my medicines, test and doctor fees.
Slowly, my body started accepting Imatnib and after 5 years of medication, I am in treatment free remission.
My world has changed so has my perspective of life.
God bless all
