My Journey with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML)
My name is Ajibola Nathaniel, and I’m a 55-year-old husband and father of three from Lagos, Nigeria. My life took an unexpected turn in February 2017.
The Symptoms
I began experiencing fatigue, pain, weight loss, excessive sweating (especially at night), and swelling in my right arm. These symptoms led me to seek medical attention.
The Diagnosis
Initially, I visited a nearby diagnostic center, where my high white blood cell count suggested leukemia. Further testing at Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) confirmed the devastating diagnosis: Blood Cancer.
From Despair to Hope
My family and I were heartbroken. However, a referral to Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital (OAUTH) in Ile-Ife changed everything. There, I received free medical treatment and medication through The Max Foundation.
A New Lease on Life
The medical team reassured me that CML is no longer a death sentence. With Glivec medication and regular check-ups, I’ve regained my strength and hope. I’m grateful for The Max Foundation’s support and the medical team’s care.
My Message
Don’t let fear control your life. With proper treatment and support, you can manage CML and live a normal life. I’m living proof.
Thank you, The Max Foundation, and the medical team, for giving me a second chance.
